Building on this year’s success and further strengthening pathways for young players across the state, Football West in partnership with Football Australia, looks forward to welcoming players to trial for our Academies, and State Teams for 2026

Registrations are closing soon for trials for the 2026 Hyundai Football West-Football Australia Academy Girls program. For players born in 2010 and 2011, the trials will also serve as identification for the WA State U15 and U16 extended squads for next year’s CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships.*

ACADEMY TRIALS – GIRLS

Football West is inviting talented young girls born between 2008 and 2014 to trial for the Hyundai Football West Academy – a development-focused program designed to prepare players for progression into higher levels of the game.

The Academy aims to enhance technical skill, tactical understanding and high-performance behaviours in a structured and supportive environment.

Program overview

  • There are four playing squads covering the following age groups: U13, U14, U15, U18
  • Players have access to a quality training methodology under our experienced, accredited coaching staff 
  • It is a 40-week program, averaging three contact days per week
  • There is a tailored games program suitable to individual age group

What to expect

  • Individual player development
  • Improve technical proficiency
  • Age-appropriate tactical understanding
  • Football conditioning, injury prevention
  • Function movement skills leading into strength training
  • Personal growth, discipline and increased resilience

Membership players (train-on program)

  • For players in the U12-U14 age groups
  • U12 players train in Term 4 & Term 1, working on the technical fundamentals, before returning to their clubs for the season
  • U13 and U14 players will train and develop together with Hyundai Football West Academy players under our accredited coaches
  • There is one training per week in addition to your club commitments
  • This is a pathway to CommBank Emerging Matildas Championship selection when age-eligible

Trial process

  • Players will be assessed in their correct age group only (based on year of birth)
  • Players born outside the listed age groups will not be eligible to trial
  • All players must register and attend the first two trials
  • Third trials are invite-only
  • Players must arrive 15 minutes early
  • Shinpads must be worn
  • Only registered players can participate

Under 12s (born 2014 only) – Registrations closed 

Where: Trials One and Two at Sam Kerr Football Centre, Queens Park; Trial Three (invite only) at Gibbney Reserve, Maylands

When:

  • Trial One: Tuesday 9 September (5-6.30pm)
  • Trial Two: Thursday 11 September (5-6.30pm)
  • Trial Three (invite only): Saturday 13 September (8.30-10am)

Under 13s (born 2013 only) – Registrations closed 

Where:  Trials One and Two at Sam Kerr Football Centre, Queens Park; Trial Three (invite only) at Gibbney Reserve, Maylands

  • Trial Two: Thursday 18 September (5-6.30pm)
  • Trial Three (invite only): Saturday 20 September (8.30-10am)

Under 14s (born 2012 only)

  • Trial One: Monday 13 October (5-6.30pm)
  • Trial Two: Thursday 16 October (5-6.30pm)
  • Trial Three (invite only): Monday 20 October (5-6.30pm)

*Players born in 2010 and 2011 are eligible to participate in the CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships. This tournament serves as a talent identification opportunity for Football Australia coaching staff to select players for Junior Matildas camps, tournaments and U17 Women's World Cup qualification.

Preparations commence from November 2025, when Hyundai Football West Academy players and selected State Team extended squad members will train together twice per week.
