Unbeaten Freo set up top-of-the-table clash with Olympic

Fremantle City's unbeaten start to the Men's State League season continued on Saturday as they won 2-0 at Dianella White Eagles in the evening kick-off.

Cameron Lord's side won for the fifth time in seven games this season, which helped them leapfrog Mandurah City and Western Knights into second place in Division One.

Corey Towle got the first with a blast from 35 yards which found its way past Peter Pikadaris, before substitute Dimitrij Blazeski fired low to wrap it up and maintain City's position as a title threat.

Fremantle sit four points behind leaders Olympic Kingsway with a game in hand – and the two sides meet at Hilton Reserve this Saturday.

Second place was obtained after Western Knights were held 1-1 by Rockingham City at Nash Field.

Knights booked their Australia Cup preliminary quarter-final spot with a 3-0 win over NPL side Gwelup Croatia in midweek, and they were on course for victory again after a beauty from Noah Shamaki.

But Rockingham had won consecutive games since making a change in the dugout and they grabbed a good away point when Taylor Carter followed in to score from Robbie Galvin's shot off the bar.

However, it is still Kingsway who are out in front and they opened up a gap on the rest with a 2-1 win at home to Murdoch University Melville, the side that beat them in the Night Series final earlier this year.

Raeez Pandor came off the bench to score the opener on 57 minutes. But MUM FC, who were buoyed by reaching the final eight of the Australia Cup in midweek, levelled two minutes later when Daniel Tait headed home Feisal Zaw's cross.

The game’s decider came 20 minutes from time when Pandor and Daniel Harrison linked up down the left and crossed for Ciaran Byrne with last season's Golden Boot winner netting for the fourth time this season.

Mandurah City dropped to fourth as their six-game unbeaten run came to an end after a 3-0 loss to Joondalup United.

Ben Johns scored a first-half brace from the penalty spot and Matthew Corrigan got the other soon after the restart, as United recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season and climbed into the top half of the league.

Subiaco also maintained their top-half position as Emmanuel Langoya's double helped them win 3-2 at Quinns and end a two-game winless run.

After a goalless first half which saw Harley Curran sent off for the home side, in-form Langoya made 1-0 in the first minute of the second half.

An own goal squared the ledger on 56 minutes but Adrian Manno put Subi ahead eight minutes later to restore the lead for Goran Stajic's side.

Hayden Doyle made it 2-2 with 10 minutes to play, but Langoya responded three minutes later to make it six goals for the season as the league's joint-second top scorer.

And Forrestfield ended a three-game losing streak as they beat bottom side UWA Nedlands to create some separation between them and the relegation zone.

Ollie La Galia had the freedom of the penalty area to leap and nod in Andrew Harold's cross, but Boas Mtwale equalised for UWA early in the second half.

The winner for the home side came eight minutes from the end when the ball broke for former Sorrento defender Darryl Platten after a goalmouth scramble and he showed a striker's composure to strike the decisive blow.

In Division Two, the top two Carramar Shamrock Rovers and Kingsley Westside both claimed three points.

The result of the day was at Wotton Reserve as Kingsley Westside came from three goals down to win 4-3 with a 91st minute winner scored by Joshua Waldock.

The visitors shipped 10 goals at Bayswater City in the Australia Cup in midweek and things weren't shaping up too well again with Tyler Holden, Callum Speed and new signing David Heagney all netting in the first half.

Paul Stewart gave Kingsley a lifeline on the stroke of half-time and scored again to make it game on with an hour played. It was then left to Darren O'Riordan with 10 minutes to play and Waldock late on to complete the comeback.

A Jamie Gibson double, including a penalty, helped leaders Rovers maintain their three-point cushion over Kingsley as they won 4-2 at home to Wanneroo City.

Third-place Gosnells City were not in action on Saturday as their game at Balga was postponed. They are five points behind Kingsley with two games in hand, while below them Curtin were unable to take advantage as they were held 0-0 by mid-table Joondalup City.
