Volunteers celebrated at 2025 Community Football Awards

Football West this week celebrated the contribution of its volunteers at the 2025 Community Football Awards.

The event took place at Sam Kerr Football Centre, where the following winners were recognised:

  • Metro Club of the Year: HAMERSLEY ROVERS JUNIOR SOCCER CLUB
  • Regional Club of the Year: VASSE JUNIOR SOCCER CLUB
  • Male Volunteer of the Year: MARCEL SLADEN (Baynton United Football Club)
  • Female Volunteer of the Year: BIANCA McRAE (Vasse Junior Soccer Club)
  • Championing of Women’s Football Award: CARLOS VEGA MENA (Hyundai Football West Academy) and HAMERSLEY ROVERS JUNIOR SOCCER CLUB

There was also a panel discussion with Murdoch University Melville FC Women’s and Girls Vice President and Football West Life Member Penny Tanner Hoath; Mandurah City FC Female Football Director Melanie Loreto; South Perth United Club President Sony Sindhe; and Busselton City Committee Member and Director of the newly formed Football South West Sami Ryan.

Football West Director Ivy Chen made the opening address, while Football West Chair Sherif Andrawes attended.

Football West Club Development Lead Mo Syafiq spoke about the Club Changer Club Development Program.

He said: “Congratulations to all of our award winners and the people, clubs and associations who made the shortlists. The number and quality of the nominations show that volunteering is thriving in football in WA.

“We had a very good turnout at the Sam Kerr Football Centre and the day provided a great opportunity to celebrate some outstanding achievements in community football.

“It was also a great chance to hear from an experienced panel of volunteers who shared the challenges they meet leading clubs, upcoming opportunities in football and how they began volunteering in the first place.

“The Community Awards provide a wonderful platform for networking and discussion within grassroots football to explore more ways to grow. Thanks to everyone who attended.”
