WA optimism high as National Futsal Championships reach quarter-final stage
The 2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships on the Gold Coast are at the quarter-final stage on Friday, with plenty of optimism among the Football West sides.
The WA Boys U14s head into their last eight clash against Queensland Silver as pool winners following a 12-2 defeat of NSW Country on Day Three.
The WA U12 Boys have one group game to play on Friday morning, knowing a win against Northern NSW, will guarantee them second place in their pool. On Thursday, they beat South Australia Blue 6-1 before suffering a first loss of the tournament against pool winners Queensland White.
The WA U13 Boys did finish second in their pool after going down 3-1 to Queensland Maroon, who finished top. They meet Queensland Silver in the quarters.
The WA Boys U15s ended the pool stage with a 2-1 victory against Northern NSW. That saw them finish second on goal difference, giving them a last-eight tie against Capital Football.
The WA Boys U16s played out a goalless draw against NSW Thunder on Thursday. They now meet Northern NSW in the last eight.
The WA Girls U13s meet NSW Thunder in the last eight, as do the WA Girls U15s. The WA Girls U17s and Women have heir final pool matches to play.

Futsalroos and Women’s Futsal National Team Head Coach Miles Downie and assistant coach Bruno Cannavan spoke with each of the Football West teams and coaches at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre on Thursday.
Downie, who is also Football Australia’s General Manager Coach Education, talked about the tournament with players and coaches as well as discussing pathways for futsal players in Australia.
Football West General Manager – Football David Lewis said: “It was terrific that our players and coaches were able to spend time with Miles and Bruno and ask them questions about futsal and learn about his role.
“Coming to these events provides these experiences and we thank Miles and Bruno for making the time for our teams.”
