Olympic Kingsway are Football West’s latest Club Changer Club of the Month.
The award for November is recognition of the club’s achievements in volunteer management and community spirit.
Olympic's success on the pitch is well documented. They completed an NPLWA Men’s league, Top Four Cup and State Cup treble in 2024, and in the past two seasons they have reached the last 16 of the Australia Cup, including a memorable 4-3 triumph over Melbourne Victory in July this year.
The club has also become a centre for the local community through its popular markets and weekly bingo and darts. These events are powered by volunteers, with a dedicated market coordinator overseeing operations.
Volunteer recruitment starts with the club board, extending to families, members and players. There is never a shortage of people keen to get involved, reflecting the inclusive culture at Kingsway Reserve.
The Australia Cup was an example of this, uniting players, volunteers and families in celebration. From match-day preparation to junior mascots leading the teams out, the spirit of teamwork shone through every step.
Club President Steven Nelkovski said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of community clubs and without the support and dedication of volunteers, clubs would not survive.
“For Olympic Kingsway’s game with Melbourne Victory, the club required 85 volunteers on the night for one game! This included volunteers at the ticket booth, in the canteen, selling merchandise, ground marshals, ball boys, mascots, and first aid.”
Football West Club Development Lead Mo Syafiq said: “Olympic Kingsway’s ability to bring people together through teamwork and community passion embodies the Club Changer values.
“They show how a strong volunteer culture can drive success both on and off the pitch.”
