Supporting coaches at grassroots and community level

Coaches at all levels play a crucial role in ensuring that football is an enjoyable experience for everyone, as well as laying the foundation for the development of better players.

Current courses are listed below – please register as soon as possible as places are limited.

To take part in a coaching course, simply register by using the online booking system etrainu. If this is your first time accessing this platform please complete a few steps first:

As such, our community coaching courses have been designed to support you in whatever role you have within football. Football West facilitates the training of community coaches at various locations and times during the year. Additionally, clubs can contact Football West at coachsupport@footballwest.com.au to request coaching courses to be conducted at their chosen venue.

COLES MINIROOS CERTIFICATE COURSE

Learn how to deliver fun, safe and engaging football sessions for children aged 4–9. This practical, game-based course focuses on introducing young players to football in an inclusive environment while supporting their natural development and love of the game.

Coaches will gain an understanding of MiniRoos principles, basic laws of the game, session planning and team culture, helping create positive experiences for every player.

FOUNDATION OF FOOTBALL COURSE

The Foundation of Football course is the ideal starting point for aspiring coaches, parents and volunteers involved in grassroots football. Designed for participants aged 14+, it provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to create a safe, positive and enjoyable learning environment for young players.
Coaches will learn how to deliver engaging training sessions, understand playing formats and develop core football skills including dribbling, passing, receiving and finishing. The course also includes ready-to-use season training plans, giving coaches the confidence and resources to support player development from day one.

FOUNDATION OF GOALKEEPING COURSE

The Foundation of Goalkeeping course is designed for coaches, parents and volunteers who want to support the development of young goalkeepers. This practical course introduces the fundamentals of goalkeeping, helping coaches create safe, engaging and enjoyable learning environments.

Participants will gain an understanding of key goalkeeping techniques, including handling, shot-stopping, positioning, footwork and distribution, while learning how to incorporate goalkeeper development into team training sessions.

Community coach courses are suitable for new coaches, parents, volunteers and anyone getting started in coaching. Courses are designed to be accessible and practical, with options for different age groups and formats. Dates and locations change throughout the year, so check the current course listings.

We offer a range of entry-level coach education courses, including the MiniRoos Certificate, Foundation of Football, and Foundation of Goalkeeping. Availability varies by intake, and details for each course are listed online.

Costs vary depending on the course and intake. Some community courses are free, while others require payment. The current price is shown on each course listing, and payment must be completed during registration where required.

Each course provides education and recognition aligned to its level and purpose within the Football Australia coaching pathway. Accreditation outcomes differ by course, so it’s important to review the course description before registering.

Community coach courses are delivered at venues across Western Australia, including metropolitan and regional locations. Each intake lists the venue, dates and session times.

Registration is completed online through the listed system. For paid courses, payment must be made at the time of registration for your place to be confirmed. New participants should follow the onboarding steps and allow for any stated wait times to access the learning platform.
