Become a Football Referee in Western Australia

Your Refereeing Journey Starts Here!

The Junior Match Official Course is open to anyone aged 13 years or older who wants to referee community football competitions across Western Australia.

To become a Football Australia accredited referee, simply complete the following three steps.

Step 1: Set Up Your Football Australia Learning Account

Before you can access the online referee training, you’ll need to create a PlayFootball account. Create Account – Play Football

If you already have an account, follow steps below.

Registering for your Learner WA Referee Account:

  1. Log in to your existing account using the link HERE.
  2. In ‘Available Products’ search for the Learner WA Referee course, begin filling in the registration.
  3. When prompted about a Working With Children’s Card
    – if you have one, upload copy of card and details.
    – if you do not have one, select the ‘Request an exemption’
  4. Complete registration

Step 2: Access Etrainu – Football Australia Online Learning Platform

Once you have received your Learner WA Referee account approval, you many now access the Etrainu – HERE!

Log in through the Learning Centre Account using your FA number.

Complete the Laws of the Game Certificate & Junior Match Official Online Modules

All referee candidates in Australia must first complete the following online modules through Etrainu before attending their practical session.

Step 3: Attend an In-Person Referee Course

After completing the online requirements, register for and attend one of the practical course sessions below.

The Junior Match Official Course fee is $172.

Yes, referees are required to have a valid WWCC, including referees under 18, and it must be submitted as an image of the physical card (not a receipt). Check current registration requirements and upload your WWCC during registration.

Fees can change each season; the 2026 published fees include different rates for adult, junior and second-year categories. Check the current referee registration page and register via PlayFootball.
