Teenage supersub Jack Baker was the hero with two goals in the last 10 minutes as Perth RedStar beat title rivals Olympic Kingsway to go three points clear at the top of the New Balance NPL WA Men’s competition.
Trailing to Liam Boland’s first-half penalty, RedStar levelled on 82 minutes when the 18-year-old headed home Aaron Black’s corner.
And just two minutes later the substitutes combined again as RedStar stormed forward and Black clipped a perfect cross to the back post for Baker to head into the unguarded net.
The 2-1 victory in the rescheduled Round 14 fixture sends Callum Salmon’s side three points clear of Bayswater City with five games to play. Olympic, who were about to go top, now find themselves four points off the summit.
In Saturday’s other match, moved forward from Round 19, Fremantle City closed on the top four with a 2-0 victory at Sorrento FC.
A penalty from Nic Ambrogio and Isaiah Wingell’s near-post header had Freo two ahead at the break and that was how it ended.
