Fremantle City deservedly finished the 2026 season with silverware after an exciting 1-0 win over Balcatta Etna in the New Balance NPL WA Women’s Top Four Cup final.

Janice Kiama got the game’s only goal, heading home early in the second half to give City a 1-0 win.

But it was the performance of Freo keeper Cassia Souza that proved pivotal.

The Californian thwarted Balcatta’s highly regarded frontline time and again and was named Player of the Match for a display that saw her become the inaugural recipient of the Angela Murphy Medal.

The award is named in honour of the late Football West administrator who served the game for 27 years. Angela’s sister Sally kindly presented the medal.

“It’s very exciting, we’ve been talking about this all season,” Souza said. “I expected to be busy … I’m just happy I performed and kept a clean sheet.”

Football West would also like to acknowledge Belgravia Apparel Business Development Manager Glen Metherell who assisted with the trophy presentation.
