Three Strike Policy

Introduction

The Three Strike Policy applies to all clubs and teams participating in Football West sanctioned competitions. The policy has been designed to reduce ongoing abuse and inappropriate behaviour by incrementally increasing consequences for repeated instances of abuse or misconduct.

Who This Applies To

This policy targets unacceptable behaviour towards match officials and other members of the Western Australian football community, occurring both on and off the field. Each club is responsible for implementing measures to protect the wellbeing and safety of football community members and to manage behaviour to avoid offending conduct by their participants.

How It Works

Three Strike Policy Notices are issued in addition to, and separate from, any disciplinary action taken against the participant(s) who commit an offence.

Strike One

  • A Strike Notice is issued to the club and remains on the club’s record for 12 months from the date it is issued
  • Football West may require additional steps to mitigate offending behaviour

Strike Two

  • A second Strike Notice is issued to the club and remains on the club’s record for 12 months from the date it is issued
  • Individual teams may receive a three-point deduction
  • Football West may require additional steps from the club to mitigate offending behaviour

Strike Three

  • A Show Cause Notice is issued to the club prior to a third Strike Notice being issued
  • If a third strike is issued within a 12-month period, potential sanctions may include:
    • Financial penalties
    • Disciplinary sanctions
    • Some or all competitive teams representing the club receiving a three-point deduction through to a full points deduction

Please note:

Strike notices will be displayed on the Football West website. The full description of the Three Strike Policy is contained in Regulation 2.6 and Schedule 3 of the Football West Disciplinary and Grievance Regulations.
